C++ Engineer for Autonomous Ships


We are seeking an Autonomy Software Engineer to join existing software team working on advanced autonomy software for our marine product. The candidate will work closely with the user interface team, system team, artificial intelligence team, and customer support team.


Sea Machines is a fast-growing startup specializing in autonomous technology for marine vessels. We’re passionate about applying practical A.I. to the massive global ocean transportation market. Our products provide ships and workboats the intelligence to work remotely and give maritime operators the tools to effectively communicate with them. Based in Boston and operating globally, the company is crewed by an experienced team of mariners, engineers, coders, and autonomy scientists.


What we looking for


  • 5+ years of C++ development experience on the LINUX platform;
  • Familiarity with Python development experience;
  • Understanding of computer architecture, embedded system programming;
  • Familiarity with Google Test framework;
  • Strong C++ knowledge;
  • Hands-on C++11 and C++14 experience;
  • Strong Linux skills;
  • Knowledge of algorithms and data structures.

Well be a plus:

  • ROS, MOOS or equivalent robotics architecture knowledge and experience;
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, etc.;
  • BS, MS, or Ph.D in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or other related engineering field;
  • Prior experience developing software for complex integrated dynamic hardware applications (like autonomy, robotics or others);
  • Experience with building autonomous systems containing both perception and control;
  • Good communications skills (verbal and written), ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.




  • Develop and maintain C++ and Python code on the Linux platform;
  • Write and maintain Bash Shell scripts;
  • Create and manage microservice containers with Kubernetes;
  • Interface with third-party marine autonomy software packages;
  • Interface with data persisted in MongoDB;
  • Write and maintain Unit and End-to-End Tests;
  • Help maintain DevOps and CI/CD infrastructure;
  • Participate in code peer review process;
  • Read documentation artifacts with UML;
  • Identify and fix application defects.
