About the role
Are you a hands-on .NET engineer who has grown into technical leadership and wants to make a real difference in healthcare? We are looking for someone who can own the technical direction of a large .NET production system, keep quality high, and increasingly guide how the product evolve and adopts AI and agentic capabilities. You will work on the .NET Core production of a large system alongside a strong and friendly team. You will spend most of your time on architecture, design, and coding, with a meaningful slice of team-lead responsibility — mentoring engineers, contributing to estimation and planning, and coordinating technical work across the back-end team. This is a tech lead role with *some* team lead responsibilities, not a pure management position.
About the project
The project we are working on is a web-based application with over 25,000 current users, developed for the entire research community to review, monitor, and manage research portfolios. The main goal of the project is to unite distributed and complex organizational processes into one application and help alleviate administrative burdens.
Who are we looking for?
Skills & Experience
- Background in software engineering; a degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline;
- 7+ years of commercial experience with .NET (strong .NET Core, ASP.NET Core);
- Proven track record as a technical owner — architecture, design decisions, and hands-on delivery on large, long-lived systems;
- 3+ years of leadership experience (tech lead, senior/mentor role, or similar) — comfortable guiding engineers with and without being a full-time people manager;
- Strong SQL skills (understanding of how SQL queries work in order to suggest consistent engineering solutions);
- Experience with large enterprise projects;
- In-depth understanding of Entity Framework / EF Core;
- Solid grasp of testing discipline — unit, integration, and performance testing as part of the development process;
- Self-starter who's able to see a piece of work through from A to Z;
- Upper-intermediate English or above.
Nice to have
- Practical exposure to building or integrating AI/agentic features into production applications (LLM APIs, tool calling, RAG, or similar);
- Azure DevOps skills and CI/CD experience (Azure DevOps / GitHub Actions);
- Advanced front-end JS skills;
- Experience with JS frameworks (React / Angular / Ember, etc.);
- Experience in building SPAs;
- Experience in a regulated domain (healthcare, life sciences) and awareness of data-privacy/compliance considerations;
Responsibilities
- Own the technical design and architecture of back-end and AI/agentic components; make and document pragmatic build/buy and framework decisions;
- Stay hands-on: participate in design, development, and integration, and write production code for the most critical or complex parts of the system;
- Define, advocate, and enforce best practices and coding standards; lead code review and refactoring;
- Cover code with unit, integration, and performance tests, and build evaluation/testing approaches for AI-driven features;
- Investigate performance bottlenecks and drive code optimization proactively;
- Be a key contributor to new release deployments and the technical health of the delivery pipeline.
- Mentor back-end engineers and help grow their .NET, SQL, and AI/agentic capabilities;
- Help distribute and coordinate back-end technical work; provide direction on how work should be built;
- Participate in grooming, estimation, and planning sessions; help plan and implement change requests;
- Support product owners and stakeholders in making sound technical decisions, and provide status updates on back-end development when needed;
- Collaborate with other team members and roles (front-end tech lead, TDM, BSA, architect, DevOps, DBAs, etc.) and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
