About the role
Proxet is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team building mission-critical, data-driven, defense analytics applications. This is a hands-on role requiring strong backend technical depth, builder mindset, leadership experience, excellent communication skills, and comfort working cross-functionally with stakeholders and client engineering teams.
About the project
Our client is a U.S.-based software company specializing in defense analytics. Its flagship platform leverages artificial intelligence and integrated data to modernize and accelerate the defense acquisition process. The company serves as a strategic technology partner to the U.S. government in support of national security initiatives.
Location
Hybrid - Boston, US.
Requires US citizenship and hybrid work from the Newton office 3 days per week, with occasional travel to Pittsburgh.
Who are we looking for?
Skills & Experience
- Must be a US citizen and reside in the US
- B.S./M.S. in Computer Science or a related technical field
- 8+ years of software engineering experience (3+ years in a senior backend role)
- Expert at using AI tools (e.g., Claude Code) to accelerate development, refactoring, migration generation, and performance tuning
- Deep expertise in Java 17+, modern frameworks (Quarkus/Spring Boot) and reactive programming. Python experience is a plus.
- Mastery of PostgreSQL and ORMs (Hibernate)
- Strong communication and presentation skills
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain high-throughput, backend solutions by engineering non-blocking, reactive backend services
- Leverage modern AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code) to accelerate delivery velocity while maintaining architectural integrity and system performance
- Drive excellence in backend system design and performance through lead-by-example ownership, comprehensive code reviews, and best practices
- Partner cross-functionally to drive clarity of business requirements and translate into technical solutions
- Champion the client’s long-term strategic success, making key decisions on performant system
design, scalable cloud-native solutions, and AI-augmented development patterns that bridge the
gap between complex system design and rapid business scale
