About the Role:
Senior Technical Project Manager (TPM) specializing in Data Engineering is directly responsible for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of data-focused projects. Acting as the key point of contact for a project's entire lifecycle, the TPM ensures technical excellence in data solutions, manages project scope and resources, builds high-performing data engineering teams, and ensures adherence to data governance and engineering standards. The TPM fosters strong relationships with project stakeholders to ensure alignment and satisfaction. This role spans teams across Europe, with clients primarily in the United States. Projects require a deep understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and modern data governance practices. The role focuses on delivering scalable, reliable, and secure data systems aligned with client needs and organizational standards.
About the Client:
The client is a global leader in asset management, responsible for managing approximately one-tenth of all retirement assets in the United States. Through their internal innovation incubator, they are developing a comprehensive, cloud-based platform for private market equity management and fund administration.
Originally centered on a specialized acquisition for cap table management, the project has expanded into building an industry-leading suite designed to automate complex financial workflows. This unified platform serves multiple stakeholders—including company representatives, legal counsel, and investors—by maintaining a historical record of company growth through sophisticated document-driven workflows.
Key pillars of the project include:
- Onboarding Automation: Utilizing advanced NLP-based document parsing to extract key terms from legal documents (such as option grants and purchase agreements) and reconcile them with existing data.
- High-Precision Modeling: Engineering a high-performance waterfall calculation engine capable of evaluating "to-the-penny" exit scenarios and multi-outcome optimizations for complex liquidation stacks.
- Fund Administration & Accounting: Integrating document ingestion with back-end accounting systems using double-entry accounting to ensure legally reliable, "self-balancing" records.
- Unified Infrastructure: Consolidating these capabilities into a shared, scalable architecture—built on a Python and AWS stack—that standardizes financial simulation across the entire private markets ecosystem.
Who are we looking for?
Project Planning & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary technical delivery lead and point of contact for data project stakeholders.
- Define project scope, goals, and deliverables—such as data pipelines, warehouses, and analytics platforms—in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.
- Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
- Manage and document changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs.
Project Execution & Delivery
- Direct and manage the development of data projects from beginning to end, ensuring on-time, on-budget, and on-scope delivery.
- Track project milestones and deliverables using appropriate tools, and provide regular status reports to stakeholders.
- Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate project risks and issues related to data, infrastructure, and delivery.
- Ensure consistent, high-quality delivery of reliable and scalable data solutions aligned with project requirements and internal data engineering standards.
- Promote data engineering best practices, including data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, data quality, and governance.
Team Management & Leadership
- Build, lead, and retain effective and high-performing data engineering teams.
- Provide regular coaching, technical mentorship, feedback, and career development support to team members.
- Conduct performance reviews and align individual and team goals with project objectives.
- Collaborate regularly with the People Partner to manage attrition risks and identify crucial personnel.
- Foster a culture of technical ownership, data quality, and robust engineering.
Operational Execution
- Work closely with Talent Acquisition and Resource Management to ensure timely and optimal staffing for project needs.
- Maintain accurate project planning and forecasting.
- Oversee the technical onboarding and offboarding processes for project team members.
- Ensure compliance with internal tools, systems, and processes (e.g., time tracking, reporting, technical documentation).
Requirements
- 7+ years of technical project management experience, leading large, complex data projects.
- A solid technical background in data engineering, database design, cloud data platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), or big data technologies is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience managing client relationships and technical delivery teams across distributed geographies.
- Strong understanding of the data project lifecycle, including data modeling, ETL/ELT development, data warehousing, and data governance.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience applying both Agile and Waterfall methodologies
- Proven ability to define, track, and leverage KPIs and performance metrics
- Strong proficiency in applying a range of project estimation techniques
- Excellent client-facing, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Solid people management capabilities with a focus on team engagement, technical growth, and retention.
- High accountability, a strong sense of ownership, and meticulous attention to detail.
Would be a plus or nice to have
- Professional certifications in project management or Agile delivery (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, CSM, SAFe) would be an advantage.
- WS/GCP/Azure Data or Architecture certifications, CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) are considered a strong asset.
